Our Heritage: The Story Behind Our Why
Our story begins with a deeply personal tragedy that shaped the mission and purpose of our business. In 2001, Kamran Mahmoudzadeh, one of our founders, experienced a life-altering event that gave him a new perspective on road safety – tragically, in January 2007, his 18-year-old son lost his life in a devastating road accident.
This heartbreak became the driving force behind Kamran’s determination to make a difference.
Together with co-founders Nick Corrie and Alan Cottrill, Kamran turned his grief into a mission: to make roads safer for everyone. They founded the company with a vision of reducing road accidents by focusing on awareness, intervention, prevention, and education. Their shared passion stemmed from the belief that no family should endure the pain of losing a loved one to a preventable road accident.
This heartfelt video offers a glimpse into our heritage, shedding light on the deeply personal reason behind our “why.”
Our heritage is more than a story—it’s the foundation of everything we do. It’s why we’re so passionate about making a difference, one road, one driver, and one life at a time.
We practice what we preach
This tragedy has deeply influenced the values of our business, serving as a constant reminder of our responsibility to make a positive impact. It all began with Carrot Insurance, our internal insurance broker and proof of concept for our technology, which demonstrated the potential of telematics to enhance driver safety and empower users with actionable insights. This foundation not only validated our approach but also set the standard for our commitment to innovation and customer-centric solutions.
We pioneered a reward system for safe driving and were among the first insurers in the UK to introduce app-based telematics. For nine years, we’ve insured and rewarded more than 130,000 customers, earning multiple awards for our innovative approach to young driver telematics. One of our proudest achievements was receiving a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award, recognizing our commitment to making roads safer through technology.

This strong legacy continues to shape how we create and evolve our products and solutions. It drives us to prioritize safety, transparency, and user empowerment, ensuring that our offerings don’t just meet industry standards but actively contribute to safer roads and better driving experiences. This commitment remains at the heart of everything we do, guiding our vision and influencing every step of our journey.
